Happy New Year!!!

Face it ladies, we begin the New Year when our kids start school every year. This sets our new rhythm and schedules. Now we have some time. The most precious commodity a person can have while raising a family is TIME. Of course we all make a resolution to use it wisely and not spend our time at starbucks chatting it up with our friends. (That is a good thing too.) The following are some suggestions for those of you who have resolved that “ME” time will include exercise.

We have many choices in our neighborhood. My personal favorite on a crisp fall day is a nice walk (to starbucks if you choose). However if you prefer a more organized effort the following are some of our favorite choices:

1. Pilates at CORE Fitness and physical Therapy 2940 w. 95th street. This is a terrific form of exercise that focuses on strengthening the core muscles. This form of exercise strengthens all muscle groups and improves flexibility and balance. Many people don’t realize how gentle, yet challenging this form of exercise is. Teens through seniors benefit from Pilates and there are opportunities for everyone. A definite advantage is a staff of physical therapists who can teach exercise correctly and prevent injury. For a complete schedule go to Core Fitness Physical Therapy

2. At the same location is Beverly ride on. They have a variety of spinning classes (stationary bike) from beginner challenges on up to rigorous. Check it out on 95th in Evergreen Park

3. For a more personal approach Marianne Zarzecki offers private personal training, semi-private and small group situations through her business Beverly Fitness. She can be reached at 773-779-0838. Marianne has a great knowledge base and a terrific way of encouraging her clients to take it to the next level.

4. For a generic health club approach we have Cardinal Fitness at 2545 w. 111th street. The machines are great, the space is clean however, if you have no knowledge of the machines you will need someone to help you. There are personal trainers available for an additional fee.

There are of course many other options out there. These are places I have tried and loved. Please send us other options you love to share with our readers. And remember to do something nice for yourself…Happy New Year!! C. Suglich
